Types of COVID-specific Health Insurance

As mandated by the Government of India, 2 types of Covid-specific Health Insurance have been launched & every Insurance company offering the product has to offer it at the exact same price and terms and conditions.

Type 1 -- Covid Kavach

Duration of cover : 9.5 months maximum (285 days)

Sum Insured : INR 50000 to 5 lac

Premium : Starts at 2000/- per person 

It covers :

• Hospital bills (Minimum hospitalisation : 24 hours)

• Home quarantine expenses like medicines or doctor visits

• All covid-specific medical expenses like Gloves, PPE Kits etc

Type 2 -- Covid Rakshak

Duration of cover : 9.5 months maximum (285 days)

Sum Insured : INR 50000 to 2.5 lac

Premium : Starts at 2500/- per person 

It covers :

• A lumpsum payout in case a person tests Covid Positive. (Minimum hospitalisation : 72 hours) 

• This is a simple, one time use product meant to help with additional expenses or loss of income due to the illness.

Note :

• As soon as you test Covid positive by a Government approved lab, you intimate the Health Insurance company and they transfer the amount of your cover to your Bank Account.

• Once you receive the money your Covid Rakshak policy will close.

While both Covid Rakshak and Covid Kawach are very simple & inexpensive to get, they have a 15-day waiting period i.e. 15 days after the date of purchase the benefits will start.
